Elizabeth Agnew Email and Phone Number
I am currently pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in International Development with a focus on Development in Fragile Contexts at the University of Guelph, where my studies have deepened my understanding of global issues, international politics, policy analysis, research ethics, and cultural diversity. My education focuses on understanding the unique challenges faced by communities that experience instability due to factors such as conflict, economic vulnerability, environmental stress, and weak governance.Through my coursework, I have studied topics such as conflict resolution, humanitarian aid, and sustainable development solutions tailored to fragile environments. I have explored frameworks for assessing political and social stability, as well as strategies for strengthening institutions that can provide essential services and uphold human rights.I am especially drawn to the role of community-led development and how locally driven initiatives can build resilience from within. My studies have also emphasized the importance of ethical research practices, cultural competence, and policy advocacy when working with communities facing instability. With these skills, I am motivated to make a positive impact in regions that require both immediate support and structural change to overcome cycles of fragility and foster long-term stability. In addition to my studies, I have worked as an independent private tutor and a literacy tutor volunteer with the Learning Disabilities Association of Wellington County, applying my educational skills to support students’ learning and development. This role allowed me to work with diverse groups, adapt to varied learning needs, and collaborate with parents to create a positive learning environment.I also have experience as a contract worker at Helper Bees, a community-based organization that serves low-income and unhoused individuals. These experiences have helped me develop interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills, which complement my academic focus in international development and have strengthened my commitment to social justice and sustainability. My certifications in food safety, ethical research, and cannabis retail further reflect my dedication to responsible practice in both my academic and professional pursuits. I aspire to use my knowledge in international development to contribute meaningfully to global and local communities.

TutorIndependent Oct 2018 - PresentGuelph, On, CanadaI assist children and teens in their school work in one-on-one and small groups environments, primarily working with children with learning difficulties. I actively strive to nurture my students’ confidence in themselves and their abilities; I believe that is a large component of learning is developing self-assuredness and contributing to an environment where a student is confident in their ability to problem solve while also being comfortable asking for help. I develop personal and professional connections with both students and parents, clearly communicating strengths and areas of improvement to both parties while providing manageable next steps for the students to work on outside of our time together.
