I supervised and documented visits between non-custodial parents and their children while making sure the children are in a safe physical and emotional environment. I adjusted protocol for each case depending on substance use, mental health, abuse and neglect, domestic violence, long separation and homelessness. I also exchanged children from one parent to the other while ensuring that both parties are safe through staggered arrival and departure times. Lastly, I managed a caseload of 12 families.

At Focus Learning Academy SW, I worked with at-risk 14-23 year old students who have dropped out of traditional high schools. As a Ohio Benefit Bank counselor, I helped students sign up for child care resources, health insurance, emergency food assistance, and rent/utility assistance. I facilitated a weekly women's group that discusses mental health, anger-management, self-esteem and safety. In addition, I co-facilitated a mindfulness group. I conducted individual counseling sessions with students based on individual needs and concerns. Lastly, I utilized crisis management tools to assess suicidal ideation and mental health concerns.

I completed my first MSW internship at Conger Elementary School alongside the school social worker and counselor for my first placement in the masters program at The Ohio State University. I taught first grade lessons focused on important issues such as anger management and self-esteem. In addition, I worked one on one with several students that have additional needs outside of the classroom.

I worked alongside a retired social worker within the Upholstery job training program at The Department of Juvenile Justice. I assisted eight juveniles by helping them with their work and daily struggles they encounter from being incarcerated.

I used Applied Behavior Analysis in attempt to change the behavior of a five-year-old with Autism. In order to change unwanted behavior, I strategically implemented different exercises to challenge his critical thinking and social skills.

Lexington, South Carolina

I worked with first time, non-violent, juvenile offenders in Lexington County. I was able to read police reports and witness statements to get a good understanding of statutes that effect juveniles. I attended juvenile hearings, the Get Smart Program, Drug Court, community service days, and several jail tours in order to see how the program works first hand and the sanctions that are available to juveniles.
