I completed my teaching certification credentials at NC State University and added ESL certification to my license from Duke University. My focus while teaching in Wake County was in the English as a Second Language department where I piloted a Newcomer Academy program for refugees and immigrants from Central America, the Congo and Middle East which involved intense language acquisition methods.

While taking care of my terminally ill grandparents until their passing, I taught English as a Second Language as instructor gaining experience at the Elementary and Middle School levels in a rural based area of eastern North Carolina and when I couldn't commit to a school year, I worked as a substitute teacher at various local schools being shuffled about teaching mixed levels of ESL and in interpreting for Spanish speaking parents within the school system.

While completing my graduate course work in English Education. I taught and established an English as a Second Language program at Northern High School. I taught all levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced) implemented a Positive Behavior Program; rewarding students for their academic efforts, attendance and leadership. Served as the ESL Department Chair.
