I was the clinical educator for Perianesthesia Services at Tuality Healthcare. Perianesthesia Services covers 7 departments- DSU, Endoscopy, OR, PAC, PACU, SP and TOPS. Responsibilities contained within my current position include: • Formulating the yearly competencies for all the Perioperative Services staff• Coordinating the precepting of new employees and new grad RN’s• Coordinating simulations for numerous departments to practice communication skills and improve clinical skills• Formulating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for various protocols throughout Perioperative Services• Coaching staff on skills pertinent to our next Joint Commission review• Updating policies related to Perioperative Services• Taking call for the Main OR PACU on a PRN basis, which includes a minimum of one weekend every six weeks and two holidays per year, to keep patient care skills updated and facilitate an understanding of staff workflow and education needs• Representing the service line as practice expert and education coordinator on various organizational and service line committees• Conducting systematic and ongoing gap analysis related to areas of deficit in knowledge, skill and/or practice of Perioperative clinical staffTeaching experience/ training includes:• TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer since 04/29/16• Performing Collegial Interactive Team (CIT) communication training for all hospital staff via presentations at General Clinical Orientation and departmental staff meetings• Manning a table at all Skills Fair days to educate staff throughout the hospital system• Received 14 CEU’s for courses focused on the principles of adult learning, EBP, and simulation through the 2016 ANPD annual convention • Received 24 CEU’s for courses focused on Collegial Interactive Team training and Just-In-Time Simulation through Mountain States Healthcare Risk Retention Group (MSHRRG) and In Sytu Advanced Healthcare Simulation

As a PACU nurse I utilize the nursing process to identify the patient's need for continuous assessment in the PACU. I document and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing actions and ensure a safe environment of care. I am responsible and accountable for working with other departments, to ensure continuity of the care plan after the patient is discharged from my care. I am a subject matter expert in Malignant Hyperthermia, CPOE, and am a Cerner super-user. I float to other departments within Surgical Services, to assist with patient care and computer issues. I also have a secondary role of clinical education for the Surgical Services department, which includes educating PACU, DSU, TOPS, and GE Lab staff. I assist, on an ad hoc basis, with the clinical education of CCU, ER, and OB staff. I am on several committees, including the Super User and Triple Play committees.

I cared for post-op patients in Phase 1 and 2. I discharged patients from the PACU, after giving them all needed post-operative teaching. I also cared for infants, children, adolescents, and elderly patients. SCMC is a trauma hospital that services a 25,000 square mile area. I cared for numerous patients from other countries who had been injured while skiing, snowmobiling, or hiking.

I cared for critical patients in the ICU and PCU.
