My Sophomore year internship was spent at the Sugar Coated Bakery creating and decorating cakes, cupcakes, pastries and baked desserts of all types. The owner was a JWU graduate and had operated the Bakery for the past five years, she gave me an A for my efforts and commended my work ethic. As the assistant baker in a small bakery I was responsible for many aspects of the day to day operation of the bakery and handled a number of projects with a minimum of supervision. This close working relationship allowed me to utilize the skills I brought to the job and expand them with the skilled guidance of my mentor. My tasks at the bakery included: Baking, icing and decorating cakes Working to meet tight production schedules Cleaning the bakery equipment, as well as storage and preparation areas Accurately followed recipe formulas and the weighing of ingredients Monitored ovens and oven temperatures Made sure fresh pastries were available for customers
