Hello, I am Elizabeth Caver a current scholar of UAB's Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program. This premiere program offers rigorous training in professional development, research experience in leading laboratory facilities, and ultimately guidance to a fulfilling career in research. I am an alumna of Stillman College where I earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology. While pursuing a B.S. degree I have maintained a high academic GPA, while involved in campus organizations, overseeing a student research lab, and working full-time as a patient care assistant where I was Medication Assistant Certified (MAC). My undergraduate research in neurobiology encompasses finding a link between the dopamine synthesis pathways and alcohol addiction as well as testing myo-inositol as a potential drug treatment for alcohol addiction. I also have studied the drug Reserpine used in the treatment of hypertension and its oxidative stress causing properties. Both of these research endeavors have been accepted and presented at prestigious and highly competitive research conferences such as The Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students 2014 & 2015 among many others where I have won various awards. My future goals include attending a graduate program in biomedical sciences. I've always known my calling was to reach the world through health and research as well as inspire youths of minority background to be involved in the rewarding areas of STEM.
