About Elizabeth Cunha, Mfa

Beth Cunha, MFA is the founding executive director of The Center for Dynamic Learning, Inc. located in Providence, RI. For the past 25 years she has led the organization from its infancy to its current standing as a leader in urban out of school time STEAMM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math and manufacturing) education. Beth holds a BA in Theatre and MFA in Theatre Performance and Social Change from Rhode Island College. Utilizing the skills she has developed through her work in the Nonprofit Sector and Education field, Beth has taught for Rhode Island College's Nonprofit Studies program, Rhode Island College's Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance, Dean College's Counseling Department and the Community College of RI as well as many Professional Development workshops. Beth is a proud member of the Leadership Rhode Island THETA II class and a graduated member of the RI Foundations Emerging Leaders Program. She was named the 2015 RISBJ Woman to Watch Community Champion and under her leadership the Center for Dynamic Learning has been named the 2014 Champion in Action by Citizens Bank and NBC 10 as well as Most Innovative in Education by PBN. Beth recently committed to a research and development project regarding meeting the needs of Professional Development for Afterschool Professionals, Youth Development Organizations and Early Childhood Centers & Educators with colleague and mentor Shevaun Keogh-Walker. Beth has also been married to her husband Kevin for over 21 years and is the mother to 6 exceptional children, Jeffrey, Mickey, Nathan, Autumn, Seth and Sam and is enjoying her first grandchild, Alani.

    OUR MISSIONThe Center for Dynamic Learning inspires youth to cultivate career readiness and workforce skills through science, art and theatre programs.OUR PHILOSOPHYOur programming promotes inquiry based learning through hands-on, student centered, interdisciplinary STEAMM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and manufacturing) curriculum. By targeting the entirety of the STEAMM acronym, science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and manufacturing, CDL places itself at the forefront of the ever evolving description of a successful 21st century adult - making sure to impart essential social competencies as well as college and career ready content knowledge. CDL is not a one time learning experience. All programming is inquiry based and challenges youth to follow their own interests to relevant learning experiences. Annually, we serve 2,500 inner-city youth from all over Rhode Island.After-school programs can be effective at building critical personal, social and academic skills. High-quality, organized after-school and summer programs provide opportunities for children and youth to develop positive relationships with peers and adult mentors, increase children’s safety and reduce the likelihood that youth engage in inappropriate activities. Children who participate in organized after-school programs and extracurricular activities benefit socially, emotionally and academically. Participation can improve children’s academic performance, homework completion and behavior and work habits, while reducing the need for disciplinary actions. (Kid’s Count, 2012)

    Traveling Theatre is a non-profit, arts enrichment organization located in Providence, RI. Our organization has multiple branches of educational activities that stem from its base of arts enrichment programming, as well as several training programs that serve to develop professional and educational skills in young adults. Each of our many programs play an integral part in our mission of providing artistic experiences for youth that strengthen creativity, literacy, problem solving, cooperative learning, self-confidence, and the life skills necessary to face everyday challenges.After school programs make up the core of Traveling Theatre. We have a large selection of enrichment workshops with various areas of focus including theatre, dance, film, visual and vocational arts. These programs are offered in 14 schools throughout the state, as well as in our summer camp in Lincoln, RI. Since our inception, there has always been a drive amongst our teaching artists to service the social and emotional needs as well as build the academic and artistic skills of the youth in the communities we encounter. Our workshops offer an artistic outlet for youth while providing meaningful enrichment and a safe environment to learn and explore.
