About Elizabeth Garcia

I have been working with young adults in a variety of capacities for close to twenty years. I began my social service career at Covenant House New York (CHNY) working with youth experiencing homelessness, and graduated from their Executive Management Training Program in 2006. In 2009, I joined Good Shepherd Services (GSS), and took over as the Program Director for their transitional living program, the Chelsea Foyer. In 2012, I was charged with directing GSS’s then newly acquired supportive housing program, the Edwin Gould Academy, and launching the Street Outreach Program. In 2015, I took on the oversight of GSS’s first ever Cure Violence anti-gun violence program (BRAG), and was promoted to Division Director for Supportive Housing and Outreach Initiatives. Since then, I have helped grow BRAG from a small, one site program, to three separate sites/locations with several wrap around services. I have also taken on oversight of my division’s Employment Initiatives, and was a founding member of the Leadership, Equity, Accountability, and Diversity (LEAD) Council. I currently also support our Trauma Informed Practice team, and was recently promoted to Chief Program Officer, where I will lead GSS’s Community Based Division. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Psychology and New York University with an MSW. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker and am SIFI Certified. I also obtained a Certificate in Business Excellence through the Columbia University Senior Leaders Program for Nonprofit Professionals, and participated in the Bergen LEADS civic engagement think tank. I am a passionate advocate for the needs of youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
