WU serves consumers and businesses with fast, reliable and convenient ways to send and receive money around the world. I led corporate strategy, product management and development, marketing and communications, and corporate transformation initiatives. I served as a named officer on the company's Executive Committee, and the supervisory board of the Western Union International Bank (regulated in the EU by the ECB and FMA) and led a global team based in several countries. Together, we led ambitious corporate and business unit strategies focused on digital growth and product line expansion. I co-led potential M & A/investment evaluations and developed pilots for new products, channels, and customer segments, across B2B, C2B, C2C, B2C payments opportunities. The Marketing team built-out CRM and loyalty capability; globalized campaign development and activations across traditional, digital and mobile channels, while upgrading data and analytics capability to support regulatory and business needs, and to enable substantial improvements in CX. We also delivered new brand positioning and visual identity and launched Premier League and NBA sponsorships reaching 1 billion+ audiences. We drove reputation-building programs and crisis communications among customers, employees, investors, businesses, and regulators, and managed reputation issues related to two data breach incidents (which occurred with key vendors), and a legal settlement of multi-year litigation affecting WU’s regulatory standing in US and EU markets.

Dollar Financial Group UK was part of a global provider of short-term consumer finance, currency and payments services across several countries, backed by Lone Star Capital. During 2015-6, the board led an overhaul of the business model, conduct and risk processes, as well as the management team. As Risk Committee chair, I supported leaders in navigating a “make or break” conduct review and licensing process for the Money Shop and other digital lending businesses. I stepped down from this role when I joined Western Union as it presented a commercial conflict.

My global role was partner-equivalent and carried a wide range of strategic and managerial accountabilities for marketing and business development, client and business strategy and corporate affairs. Key areas of focus included building more profitable client relationships, driving innovation in our content and client-facing communications, and introducing marketing best practice in a range of areas, including digital and systems/ infrastructure. Highlights of impact included fully globalizing a team based in 20 offices, driving digital adoption through all areas of communications, delivering a ground-breaking London 2012 Games brand sponsorship and a “Top 100” client management program globally, with strong client satisfaction and cross-selling results. I led the implementation of the firm’s ambitious CRM system investment, overhauled the agency roster, added PR capacity in key markets and outsourced critical functions to marketing services providers.

The board led a digital transformation, and later worked intensively with management and outside advisers to complete a comprehensive business and balance sheet restructuring, protecting thousands of jobs and pensions across its markets. This effort won American Lawyer's award for Restructuring Deal of the Year in the UK.

The Home and Savings Bank was a startup financial services venture in the UK, formed to launch a challenger bank in the wake of the global financial crisis.

My personal impact included: 1) Charting a clear strategy for the Barclays brand and related sponsorships in the context of serious reputational and marketplace challenges throughout 2008 and 2009; 2) Accelerating marketing best practice and embedding marketing planning disciplines to rapidly capture growth opportunities around the world, particularly in new markets and digital channels; 3) Introducing optimisation processes for c. £425m annual marketing budgets across 30 markets, and all related supplier/agency relationships (achieving both rationalisation and roster buildout in new channels/markets); 4) Leading (directly or indirectly) c. 1100 marketing professionals across businesses and geographies, with day to day emphasis on talent development and adapting the organisation design to address rapid business line expansion, as well as achieving marketing scale efficiencies.

Serving as CMO, I led Barclaycard’s strategy, marketing and new business and product development activities, digital channels, brand management, advertising and sponsorship, customer insight and experience design, as well as internal and external communications and corporate affairs activities. I directly or indirectly managed c 550 marketing professionals and had investment oversight for c. £225 mm annual marketing budget and all related supplier/agency relationships across several operating businesses. During this time, I also held full P&L responsibility for Barclaycard’s co-branded card partnerships in the UK from late 2006 to mid-2009. My personal impact included: 1) Rejuvenating the Barclaycard brand in core markets through an award-winning programme of multi-channel advertising and sponsorships and digital innovation; 2) Leading teams which identified, designed, built and launched a range of “market first” products and channels across a range of B2C and B2B payment categories, transforming Barclaycard’s business momentum and brand health; 3) Building market-leading capabilities in areas of customer centricity, innovation, digital channel excellence and achieving dramatic improvements in marketing ROI; 4) As head of Barclaycard’s UK Partnerships business (a start-up co-branded credit card operation in the UK), leading the complete restructuring of its early (nonviable) operating model, launching several new partnerships with leading brands, and putting the business on a clear path to breakeven/profitability in 2010.

Served as Director on the Boards of four joint ventures while at Barclays. These FSA-regulated JVs provided co-branded credit cards and other loans and insurance products to c 2 million customers of these leading UK brands.
