As the first (and only) design hire, I am creating a culture in which the value design brings to a business is understood, and human-centered design and user empathy are embraced.If it is design-related, I do it — user research, information architecture, content strategy, interaction design, visual and UI design, graphic design, data visualization, and presentations. I work across departments, teaching engineers, sales staff, and developers how design can make their jobs easier and bring value to clients. My focus has been on developing internal tools to help people with different skill-sets find, understand, and use, both internal and open data. I set design standards and develop pattern libraries.

Analyze and create responsive websites to engage and delight users. Design and develop an iOS Watson-based app and site to help sellers have better conversations with clients and recommend products, case studies and content using IBM Watson. Conduct user research to keep team focused on end user's needs and problems. Facilitate conversations among designers, clients and marketers by bridging language gaps. Use language and metaphor to excite clients about products and services. Craft excellent user experiences by researching trends in design and neuroscience. Design, build, configure, maintain, and provide user support for all of Columbia College's websites and web applications. Develop the user interface of websites and web applications for use by students, faculty and the public. Ensure websites are responsive. Develop microsites using SVG, CSS3 and jQuery, develop and update Drupal themes, create theme templates. Keep site files updated using Git.

Designer for the Office of Publications, Editing & Design, which is responsibile for copywriting, editing and designing materials for the Department's associated agencies, as well as special projects for the Governor's office.
