Arts Ed Matters advocates for a strong presence of the arts in public education. My role is to provide visual and performing arts resources and coaching to elementary and middle school teachers so they may incorporate more of these wholistic learning strategies into their professional practice.

Alameda County developed and is expanding it's powerful Arts Integration Program throughout the Bay Area. After attending the courses, I knew I wanted to join their cadre of powerful, creative educators. Following an intensive fellowship program, I have begun teaching the foundation course, Strategies and Resources for Arts Integration, in San Francisco.

The Academy of Art is one of a handful of fine arts schools that has undergraduate and graduate programs in Art Education. As an instructor here, I have been mentoring undergraduate and graduate students focused on Innovative Instructional Design and Practice.

Westlake Elementary School, Daly City

CSMA provides visual arts and music classes to over 16,000 elementary and middle school students in public schools all over the Peninsula. I have been teaching art classes in a variety of media while stretching the boundaries of the proscribed curriculum to include more choice and open-ended opportunities for the 440 students of Westlake Elementary School.

Sunset Ridge Elementary School, Pacifica, CA

The Sanchez Center oversees grant funding that provides for an art teacher at Sunset Ridge Elementary School in Pacifica. This Title One school lacks the resources to fund it’s own arts program. Having been out of the classroom for several years, I gladly taught nearly 500 eager TK - 6th grade students in a variety of media including drawing.

I created PlayMore Studios to conduct open-studio art classes and maker workshops for children in Pacifica and San Francisco. This experiment confirmed my desire to work in an collaborative school setting, rather than ‘freelancing” on my own.

KDBS is a century-old academic private school for girls. I developed and taught fine art curriculum for middle school students in a range of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, fiber arts, ceramics, digital and traditional photography.

Nueva is a renowned progressive private school originally created to serve the specialized needs of gifted students. I was incredibly fortunate to get hired there just after completing my credential. During my years there, I worked on a team to reconstitute the Middle School program. I developed and taught design, fine art and integrated project.
