A lifelong love of science ensured I'd always end up working in healthcare. Breaking one too many beakers as a college biology student convinced me to shift my focus to healthcare leadership, and I haven't looked back since: it's the perfect intersection of medicine and making a difference.As Chief Administrative Officer for the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I oversee leaders from half a dozen hospitals across our two primary sites. Being responsible for such a large footprint compels me to reflect daily and ask, "What can I do to add value to my teams and the organization?"That means listening to the needs of others and using my position to remove any obstacles so they can focus on providing quality care. I shape our vision with this in mind and work with each hospital's director to implement it across our sites by:• creating initiatives to better the health of our community• hiring and nurturing the brightest minds in academic medicine• always looking for ways to improve the quality and process of delivering careSpending my career in operations has made me mindful of keeping the big picture goal—helping people—in our sights, even while sorting through the details of finance, strategy and process improvement. The sheer variety of hospital operations brings daily challenges, but also the constant chance to make an impact. I'm satisfied whether we're helping an individual or the whole community.I've always wanted what I'm doing to make a difference. When I'm not at work, leading Girl Scout troops keeps me inspired in my free time. I've led troops all the way from kindergarten to high school.
