I have thirty years of experience as a writer and editor; a strong work ethic guided by efficiency and perfectionism; and an entrepreneurial spirit that inspired me to help launch four magazines, numerous digital e-newsletters, and a social network for North Carolina parents. I co-founded Backroad Portfolio magazine, of which I also currently serve as editor.I currently manage the social media accounts for Backroad Portfolio magazine, and I’ve also managed them for two companies and a nonprofit. In January 2020 I accepted a position as editor of Midtown and Cary Living magazines. One of my first accomplishments was to create the weekly Talk of the Triangle digital newsletter, which was later trademarked for the company. This series was expanded to include a podcast series with monthly episodes. In May 2021 I was promoted to executive editor, taking on some of the publishing, production and distribution responsibilities. In 2023 I was instrumental in the rebranding of Cary Living magazine to 5 West magazine as part of an effort to more adequately represent the five towns of Western Wake County that Cary Living had expanded to cover. Also in 2023, I entered a partnership to launch Triangle Family magazine, the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area’s only print parenting publication.Specialties: Digital communication, copyediting, feature writing and social media management. Experienced with planning and coordinating photo shoots.I graduated from Virginia Tech in 1995 with a double major in communication studies and political science, and a minor in English. I also completed UNC-Chapel Hill’s Certificate in Technology and Communications program in December 2011.In addition to my extensive magazine experience, I have worked for several newspapers and a corporate communications department. In April 2008 I launched Triangle TRACKS, a social networking site for North Carolina parents in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Cary area that linked to thousands of online resources for children. I turned Triangle TRACKS over to a new editor in July 2011 after accepting a position as Carolina Parent magazine's associate editor.
