Kristy Kay and I connected via Instagram, as I was always engaging with her content. In January of 2017 she brought me on as a design intern, for which I worked remotely from Quinnipiac University. 3x a week I posted to her social media accounts and engaged with comments and other designers. I worked to create “Before and After” promotional videos for completed projects to promote the drastic and beautiful transformations of her client’s homes. While working with her, Kristy was nominated by New England Home Magazine as a “5 Under 40” designer. To support this recognition, I refreshed and organized her Pinterest boards to pair with the website redesign she was having completed.I leaned into the Hootsuite Social Media Marketing skills I acquired to incorporate SEO tactics within image descriptions, and URLs to her website to increase traffic to her website.One of the most rewarding aspects of this opportunity was traveling to Nantucket in March of 2017 to complete a home installation. Between meeting with prospective clients, working with a team of hardworking movers, and turning this gorgeous house into a home, it was an incredible whirlwind, and I learned a ton - about design and about life!

After completing my internship here in the spring of 2016, I was brought on as an employee this fall. I work directly with the Creative Director. So far we have further established our signature line of furniture and are working to add this collection to our website to then promote to the public. Together the Creative Director and I established a company policy for the Interior Designers we work with to adhere to in the hopes of improving our relationships and being as effective and efficient as possible when completing work for them. I have utilized my marketing skills to develop a plan to promote our custom furniture line and gain exposure from our target customers. This plan was a success, as the marketing pieces translated to sales. As the month's progress, I will then direct my focus to planning our next charity event, which will be taking place in April of 2017.

Oak and Velvet is a custom furniture and upholstery business in Middletown, CT. During the 2016 Spring Semester during my internship here, I ran the Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest accounts highlighting our work and engaging with present and future clients. I used Pixelmator to produce advertisements for our social media platforms and pushed advertisements through these channels. I utilized excel to create a price sheet defining the prices for our signature furniture collection, while also contributing to the design of the showroom by assisting with furniture placement and fabric choices. I spoke directly with clients via email and phone calls. And most importantly I assisted the owner in planning the “First Annual Charity Raffle & Grand Opening Celebration”. Our goal was to raise $10,000 dollars for the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA), a cause dear to the owner's heart. Oak & Velvet raffled off a signature set of furniture including a sofa, chair, and ottoman, and all proceeds from raffle ticket purchases went directly to HDSA.
