Sports Helping to Empower Women in South Africa (SheWinS) is a small non-profit based out of the rural Memel, Free State, RSA. The program collaborates with the administration of Memel Primary School to create athletic programs for the students. Primary responsibilities included managing try-outs for soccer and track for girls ages 6-12, facilitating logistics and execution of 3 track meets and designing weekly practice schedules for over 150 girls. The 4 other coaches and I strove to create a positive practice environment to promote enthusiasm for athletics as well as cooperation and respect for peers. We regularly addressed topics of self esteem, individual aspirations, social dynamics, and health education in order to foster healthy lifestyles and self images among mentees.
