As the marketing communication director for Cypress, my focus is raising the profile of Cypress, our security access control solutions, and the Security Industry Association's OSDP access control standard.I manage Cypress promotional materials, organize all aspects of our trade show and event participation, coordinate product exposure and award applications, and arrange the educational sessions our company conducts in order to highlight the thought leadership our company brings to the industry. In addition, I enjoy maintaining relationships with members of the media and our field agents, working with fellow staff members on technical documents, webinars, ad content, video scripts, presentations, and website updates, as well as overseeing the department budget. In spare moments, I curate industry content for our website library of OSDP articles and social media posts, along with company info on our products and show whereabouts. In late 2021, I was asked by the Security Industry Association to participate in a committee to grow awareness of SIA's OSDP standard.Perhaps my favorite part of this role is interviewing customers. What's better than a firsthand look at their experiences with Cypress products and, when permissible, sharing stories of how our products have solved their problems? Maintaining multi-cultural relationships with our representatives across the globe is also a fantastic challenge. It is an honor to be part of Cypress and other companies' efforts to promote the Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP™) and to play a role in advancing adoption of this industry standard. It was a tremendous and unexpected joy to be honored by the Security Industry Association as a Sandy Jones Volunteer of the Year at ISC West 2022.

In my role as the Marketing-Communication Specialist for Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools, I had the pleasure of showcasing all the fantastic things happening in the district. Mt. Morris is something of an educational oasis within Genesee County. I personally found it to be a place where people were real and staff members consistently, genuinely cared. They were both community-oriented and forward-thinking, which meant students were getting a great education. There was a lot of good to be found in the community too, where the school fulfilled a central role.It was an honor to help promote the district's IGNITE Academy, a non-traditional high school with online curriculum and highly qualified, caring teachers and mentors, as well as its GED testing program. We had a wonderful Homecoming, with our float-builders showcased on TV5's WAKEUP CALL segment, a lovely Daddy-Daughter Dance, and a fun "Haunted Halls" community-wide Halloween night. The dedication of the Anderson-Galbreath Auditorium, named for two fantastic music educators sparked so many community memories, as showcased in a slide presentation and on its own website. Attendance for the annual Health Fair was at an all-time high, even with the flooding that night, and despite local economic challenges, the area rallied to support a 10-year Sinking Fund. It was also lots of fun to accompany youth in their environmental endeavors, and film "whiteboard interviews" with high school students for a video on what motivated them to care about their school district. While I left after one year to accept a position in my hometown, I enjoyed engaging the community and seeing enrollment actually increase at Mt. Morris Schools!

University Of Michigan-Flint, University Outreach, Flint, Michigan

At UM-Flint Outreach I worked primarily for the Discovering PLACE program. Discovering Place focuses on place-based education, engaging students in environmental, conservation and other school projects which meet local needs along with curriculum requirements, to develop stewardship among our youth. Discovering Place is one of nine statewide hubs of the Great Lakes Stewardship Initative (GLSI).My role included collaboratively developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies, recruiting and building relationships with teachers and students, marketing and promoting the program through multiple mediums, increasing brand awareness, maintaining databases to evaluate and analyze feedback, and teaming up to handle tasks ranging from grant reporting to event planning to creating curriculum.It was my privilege to assist Sara McDonnell in interviewing national experts and editing a place-based education series, funded by a $20,000 grant by the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network. I was part of a team who wrote our annual UM-Flint Outreach report, for which I served as editor. In addition, I served as an editor for the City of Flint: Parks Policy Review report. I also wrote case study reports, created promotional videos, and assisted in conducting professional development workshops as well as a conference.I additionally wrote and edited pieces such as newsletters, blog and social media content, and an editorial piece. This required research skills, news judgment, attention to trends and detail, and the ability to write persuasive and relevant material. Adaptability, along with a knack for juggling multiple projects, was instrumental in my role at UM-Flint Outreach.Critical thinking and excellent interpersonal and communication skills were also essential in my role, which was often self-directed and required exercising independent judgment to support high levels of service to the teachers and community organizations for whom I was a liason.

Won two individual Michigan Press Association feature awards while reporting at The Flint Journal. Presented with Burton Chamber of Commerce appreciation plaque for support of the Chamber and the Burton community.

Planned, promoted and implemented a community forum on village dissolution, featuring a panel of municipal experts and moderator Michael J. Thorp.Facilitated agreement for Genesee County 911 to rent WFUM tower space, preventing construction of a tower near a Goodrich elementary school.Part of team which earned the Michigan Press Association's General Excellence award.
