As a Junior Cosmetic Scientist I took responsibility for the formulation, development and project management of new cosmetic and personal care products for AYR brands across global markets as well as gifting sets for well-known brands to be sold in high-street stores such as Boots in the UK. Key responsibilities include:- Development of annual and long-term marketing plans to meet commercial and creative brand objectives.- Design and develop novel products to a high standard and to meet designated requirement of marketing on time and in full- Development of personal care products such as skincare and haircare as well as the development of bath and body toiletries- Identify key technological challenges that will result in cost savings and / or enhanced product performance and implement- Work closely with third party partners in the UK and Far East including site visits when appropriate- Establish and maintain excellent relationships with key suppliers and keep abreast of new raw materials / technologies that may provide new / superior benefits to formulations.- Ensure that the day-to-day working in the laboratories is practised in a safe, orderly and efficient manner, compliant with all internal protocols and external legislation.- Work closely with NPD, marketing and quality teams to ensure projects are kept on track and to brief- Monitor new technologies and products in the marketplace- Keep accurate detailed records of product development- Preparing, tracking and managing product stability testing in-house as well as externally- Preparing, tracking and managing product challenge testing with third parties

At Unilever I worked independently and as part of a team to research new mechanisms to be applied to hair care products and used Design of Experiments to formulate a series of products in the laboratory. These were each individually analysed using UV/vis spectrophotometry and the leading formulations were tested on hair switches where X-ray fluorescence and a texture analyser were used to measure silicone deposition and friction of the hair fibre after the application of the formulated products. Consumer testing was also carried out in salons for the final leading products. This project led to the achievement of obtaining a patent.
