I currently work in the private sector as an asset and liability management consultant at Ortec Finance for a range of global pension schemes with a risk and return focus on the effects of liquidity and climate change. Ortec Finance accepts the reality of fundamental uncertainty in our macro and financial world and aims to support asset managers in navigating potential uncertainties through scenario modeling. I hold a masters in economic methodology from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a bachelors in finance and economics from Washington University in St. Louis. I've pursued a number of research projects across economics in topics ranging from the history of the Federal Reserve to the disproportionate loss of employment in the US following the Covid-19 recession. My primary areas of research include macroeconomics broadly, the link between our financial system and macroeconomics, economic methodology, behavioral economics, and the history of economic thought-- all with the occasional focus on gender and central banking. My work has been featured across a number of different blogs including Exploring Economics, the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET), and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. I hold academic publications in journals including the European Journal for Economics and Economic Policy (EJEEP) and the Erasmus Journal for Philosophy and Economics (EJPE). I've been featured in podcasts such as the Women in Economics podcast from the St. Louis Fed. In November 2023, I was invited by a chapter of Rethinking Economics to talk on a panel on objectivity in economics for Week van het Economie Onderwijs (Economics Education week for the Netherlands) where the keynote speaker of the event was Kate Raworth. To learn more about my academic ventures, check out my personal website: https://sites.google.com/view/ella-needler/
