I have worked most my life, starting at age 12 washing dishes at weekends; promoted to waitressing at age 14. I later worked various jobs that fit around my children but it wasn't until I started working in a school as 1:1 TA (Teaching Assistant) that I felt I had found my vocation. Once I started this career path, I quickly realised this was what I'd been looking for. I wanted to improve my knowledge and skills, to help me perform my role to the best of my ability. I was nervous about being in a classroom again after so long but I really enjoyed it. Over time I completed CACHE Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Assistants and OCR Level 3 NVQ for Teaching Assistants.I then had the opportunity to become a Learning Mentor and again went back to the classroom and gained CWDC Induction Training Programme Level 3/4 children’s workforce practitioners.After 16 years, of working in education and no longer needing for my role to fit around children, I decided it was time for a career change and applied for the role of Gateline Assistant with Southern Rail. I chose the Rail Industry as I wanted a career where I would be able to progress and find something that I would be happy doing until I reached retirement age. Within GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway) there are so many different professional avenues available, as well a training opportunities and benefits are also great!I have been with the company for just under a year now and enjoy getting up for work! I look forward to seeing what the future holds. Throughout all my careers, I always give 100% and relish new challenges and gaining new skills. I'm a team player but I can work under my own initiative and I believe kindness and politeness serves everybody well.
