Profile bio

About Ella Balet

I have always had a love for art, reading, and travel. From an early age, these interests connected me to the Classics and Latin language. I then fostered a deep appreciation for ancient cultures that shaped civilization, particularly engineering marvels such as the Roman aqueducts and Athens' Acropolis. My curiosities and interests sparked a desire for a unique college journey. I sought out a dual degree college experience that enabled me to study for two years in Scotland at the University of St. Andrews and two years in Virginia at the College of William & Mary. This has provided me with an ingenuity and adaptability to successfully learn in vastly different education systems. My decision to major in Classics has inspired career goals of working in a museum. I am connected to museums because of their mission driven environments to enlighten visitors about the cultures and histories that influence our daily lives. Museums are also able to create exhibits through historical artifacts that link us to our past and connect us to cultures. My museum work experiences have been the perfect fit for my abilities to research, organize, and creatively present articles and exhibits. My key accomplishments:► I secured three internships working in numerous prestigious museum settings. I have learned museum operations, reference service, conservation practices, working collaboratively with all departments, and exceeding guest expectations as an assistant to the curator.► I was honored for the opportunity to research, write, and design an exhibit called “Strange, Odd, and Unusual.” This required extensive research of approximately 60 pieces along with detailed signage writing. I worked closely with the Curator to design and install every piece in the exhibit, ensuring it met the museum’s vision. ► I was a student archaeologist for a month-long excavation at a 6th-century BC Etruscan site. I learned about the history of this area of the Tuscany region by participating in excavations. This work required precise conservation practices of cleaning and preparing excavated items for storage. This experience involved continual coordination with professors and researchers from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.I am currently looking for opportunities with museums and cultural venues. I am open to multiple positions such as a curator, registrar, or editor. If you have a position opening or know of an opening, you can reach me at ekbalet@yahoo.com. I enjoy connecting with like-minded mission driven professionals, and I welcome the opportunity to meet.
