At the end of the day I'm responsible for keeping track of thousands of dollars worth of inventory and forecasting for the sales at hundreds of locations. I manage my inventory, purchasing, and relationships in the best way to support consumer needs and demands.

A grocery store may not be the most obvious place to glean marketing understanding; however, running the dry grocery department of a grocery store is in many ways similar to running a small retail location anywhere. Inventory speaks louder than any other metric. The best weeks at King Soopers were the weeks when we started out with a large inventory at the beginning of an ad and had depleted it by the end of the ad. Marketers use a variety of metrics to track their influence on consumers; however, my experience in retail leads me to understand that the best marketing campaigns are the ones where customers are informed of the campaign and the retailers are prepared for the boost in foot traffic and inventory fluctuations.My responsibilities as the overnight manager at King Soopers included time management, inventory management, production planning, ordering, point of purchase display building and design, and ad execution. Retail skills are all relevant when considering the staff implications of marketing promotions and I keep them in mind when considering social media promotions that will affect staff and inventory.

After completing my junior year at UCCS I applied my course work at Graham Advertising, an advertising firm located in Colorado Springs that specializes in the advertising in the automotive industry nationwide. I worked in the media department; the media buying department helps clients pick the right combination of media, i.e. radio, print, online, and television advertisements, for their budgets. As an intern my responsibilities were to report relevant demographic information for the customer’s retail locations. These demographics help guide media buyers in buying media in the appropriate portions for the given media. Reach is key in media buying, therefore; media buyers choose the radio stations that will reach the most relevant demographic to the product.The skills I honed at Graham have become invaluable to me. Every brand has an identity and a personality associated with it. This identity is one of brand’s biggest assets. I have applied this in the realm of social media by helping business owners determine the “personality” they wish their social media sites to betray. Content should always vary but it is imperative to determine the whether a site’s content should promote an educational, entertaining, informative, or creative environment.

Kaman is an industry leader in the aerospace field with a wide variety of specialized branches serving niche B2B needs. Kaman’s Colorado Springs branch is dedicated to precision measuring, boasting sensors powerful enough to measure a fraction of the width of a hair.Kaman excels in the realm of manufacturing and aerospace technology; I was there to help keep their clientele informed. A performed a variety of marketing functions to help better serve Kaman’s clientele. These functions included managing Kaman’s Hubspot account, maintaining the contact database, designing and creating a monthly news letter, as well as directing new leads to the appropriate sales representative.
