I am a classically trained opera singer who has redirected my training and talents towards providing behavioral health services for underserved and stigmatized populations. My goal is to assist these individuals in coping with their personal developmental and health challenges, ultimately improving their quality of life.To pursue this path, I pursued a major in neurological music therapy (NMT) with a minor in psychology at the University of Miami. NMT is an approach to music therapy that utilizes therapeutic interventions incorporating musical elements to enhance non-musical behaviors in patients.Throughout my career, I have gained experience in various clinical settings, working with diverse populations. During this time, I witnessed firsthand the lack of support, resources, inconsistent policies, and the bureaucratic challenges within the US healthcare system.Recognizing the need for significant change within healthcare systems on a global scale, I aim to drive more equitable and sustainable solutions in global health policy. By pursuing a Masters in Public Health, I will be well-positioned to contribute to this objective. The recent pandemic has highlighted the interconnectedness of the world and the importance of addressing health issues on a global level. Upon graduation, my immediate goal is to secure a position in Global Public Health sectors, either within the government, non-profit foundations, or international organizations such as the World Health Organization. I believe that by working in these capacities, I can make a meaningful impact in shaping health policies and promoting positive change on a global scale.
