In my second year of studying Law, I’ve taken on the role of a student mentor, where I provide personalised guidance to first year Law students. I regularly meet with my mentees to plan and deliver tailored sessions, offering academic support and advice on navigating university life. My role involves fostering a positive learning environment, helping them overcome challenges, and encouraging their personal and academic development. I’m dedicated to making a meaningful impact by building strong connections with my mentees, and I consistently go the extra mile to ensure they feel supported and empowered throughout their studies.

On Tuesday 20th February 2024, I attended an online commercial awareness workshop with trainee solicitors from Allen & Ovary. This session helped me to develop my commercial awareness skills and gave me a deeper understanding of the crucial topic. I learnt ways in which I can enhance my commercial awareness, through regularly reading the Financial Times and keeping up to date with day to day news.

I have attended Cardiff Crown Court several times both with the Bar Society and individually. We heard numerous cases which gave me an insight into how the courts operate and also observe court speech and etiquette.

I attended the annual Diversity and Inclusion event on the 11th December 2023. This event aimed to promote and celebrate diversity in the legal profession. We listened to guest speakers from firms such as Clifford Chance, Freshfields and Reed Smith.

In between my studies at university I work behind the customer service desk dealing with customers complaints and queries. This role has allowed me to develop very desirable and transferable skills such as patience and problem solving when dealing with customers queries and complaints.

I gained an insight into the finance profession through some summer work experience with a local accounting firm. I became proficient with the core features of Xero, an accounting software and was then able to develop an expertise in tax compliance by ensuring income and expenditure records in Xero adhered to tax regulations and guild lines, minimising risks and penalties for clients. Moreover, I acquired valuable time management skills while spreading my focus across multiple tax return projects and deadlines allowing me to efficiently prioritise tasks and meet strict deadlines. Even though I do not want to pursue a career in the finance profession, I gained many desirable and transferable skills that I can take with me into the legal profession.
