Ella is the Practice Principal of Aurora Physiotherapy and Fitness Centre. Her area of expertise is in the field of orthopaedic and sports physiotherapy. Prior to setting up Aurora Physio, she was Professor in Physiotherapy at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Ella is an Australian trained physiotherapist. She completed her Bachelor and Master degrees in Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia. She then received her PhD training at the Department of Physiology, University of Hong Kong.For many years Ella has served in different national sports teams and has worked with elite athletes. Ella was the Team Physiotherapist to the China Women’s Hockey Team at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics and Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games. Ella was also appointed to the Sports Medicine Specialist team of the China Olympic Team for London 2012 and Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. Locally, she is the Head Physiotherapist for USRC Tigers Rugby Football Club and Kwoon Chung Southern District Football Club. Ella's research interest and expertise is in muscle injuries in sports, sports injury prevention and rehabilitation. She has published over 100 refereed research papers in journals such as Journal of Physiology, Journal of Applied Physiology, British Journal of Sports Medicine. She has also presented her research as invited speaker at international, national and local conferences. Ella has been chief investigator for many research projects including Hong Kong Research Grant Council and Innovation Technology Fund grants awarded for more than HK $8.7 million. Throughout the many years at the University, Ella has taught undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy students as well as PhD student supervision. She has also designed and developed many courses related to musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy. She was the Award Coordinator for the Master of Science in Sports Physiotherapy and Coordinator for the Student Sports Training and Rehabilitation (STAR) Program. Ella now holds an Adjunct Professorship position at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
