I worked as a care worker a few times a year with children of varying needs. This required an understanding of medical requirements and levels of disability, risk assessment, and the selection of appropriate play/simulation techniques to engage the child.

In the last two weeks of the NCS experience, my group and I dedicated our time to volunteering for a local care home. Emotional intelligence was key as needs had to be understood and accommodated to.

Responsible for delegating roles, organising events, stock management and production, settling group conflicts and producing and delivering presentations. At the end of the programme, I received a leadership award out of the groups of the schools in Wiltshire.

In addition to being a guide and ranger, I volunteered for my brownie sector in my area for six months. Working with seven to ten year olds refined my patience and management skills.
