During my rotation with the Environment and Planning team, I focused on aquatic aspects and lake management. I was involved in water quality sampling (ground and surface), water quality reporting, and aquatic ecology studies. My tasks included electrofishing, freshwater mollusc identification, off-siding boat-based sampling and survey methods, and assisting with the deployment of artificial spawning habitats. Additionally, I contributed to the Greenhouse Gas Sampling Program.

While working with the Hydro Tasmania Business Environment Team, I was involved in a range of environmental management and water quality initiatives. I managed Blue Green Algae Bloom data and collaborated with scientific experts on bloom management and modelling. I contributed to low lake level management efforts and water quality reporting. Additionally, I supported the improvement of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to align with ISO14001 standards and conducted EMS audits of power stations and workshops to ensure compliance with ISO14001.

My research year partnered with ANSTO is focused on reconstructing a high-resolution timeline of the Australian summer monsoon for the past 500 years. The project is utilizing a stalagmite from Katherine (NT) that has recorded banding reflecting precipitation for the common era. By use of trace element analysis by u-PIXE techniques at ANSTO, I hope to contribute a speleothem proxy record for the paleoclimatology community.
