From experience as a bedside nurse on a surgical floor, to extensive experience as a Pediatric ICU RN and ECMO Specialist, to experience as a Nurse Manager of an Observation Telemetry Unit, I have seen firsthand, how communication breakdown can significantly compromise patient safety. Being a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer has enhanced my understanding of the importance of communication in all High Reliability Organizations. I have led TeamSTEPPS implementation in the PICU at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, with significant improvement shown by using briefs and debriefs surrounding significant events (i.e. bedside intubation/extubation, ECMO cannulation/decannulation). With a strong focus on excellence and a true sense of urgency, I strive to coach the critical components of communication in healthcare and the true sense of urgency that can make all the difference.
