As WSFFN’s former Executive Director I was responsible for leading the organization as it advanced its mission to educate, organize and advocate for sustainable food and farming systems. My key leadership responsibilities included: helping to set the vision, goals and strategic plans for the organization and ensuring implementation of the programs. I worked collaboratively with a network of allies and represented the organization at meetings and events at the state and national levels. In collaboration with a Development Associate, I prepared, implemented, and evaluated annual fundraising plans aimed at meeting our annual budget. I supervised and managed all staff and finances; met monthly with the Board of Directors, provided program and budget reports; prepared, implemented, and tracked annual staff work plans and yearly budgets.

Responsible for growth management advocacy in Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom Counties. Involved analysis of land use policies and regulations, including: comprehensive plans; countywide planning policies; Critical Area Ordinances; Shoreline Master Programs; city and county codes; Growth Management Act, State Environmental Policy Act and other development regulations. Responsibilities included: development and implementation of grassroots outreach and education programs on issues of interest; collaboration and coordination with partners on education, advocacy and appeals to the Growth Management Hearings Boards and Superior Court; representation of environmental perspective on advisory committees and public forums. Work also involved; comprehensive understanding of environmental and growth management statutes and policies; building grassroots support and coalitions; working with volunteers including board members; fundraising; event organizing; extensive public speaking; collaboration with diverse constituent groups; extensive writing; database management computer skills.

Responsible for the design, implementation and funding for local Skagit County growth management advocacy non-profit organization. Skills included; fundraising thru grant writing and membership outreach; familiarity with environmental and growth management land use rules and regulations; recruiting and managing board members and volunteers; collaboration with other organizations to promote issues of common interest; extensive public speaking and facilitation. Represented organization on advisory committees, at public hearings and community forums. Organized annual meetings, fundraising events, candidate forums and workshops on a variety of issues.

Responsible for design, implementation and funding first ever SmartGrowth Program. Analyzed Snohomish County’s plans and policies for compliance with the Growth Management Act; designed and coordinated appeals of county and state policies and procedures; developed and managed outreach effort to educate and coordinate citizen action. Work involved extensive understanding of the environmental statutes including; Comprehensive Plan; Countywide Planning Policies; Critical Areas Ordinance; State Growth Management Act; State Environmental Policy Act; and other development regulations. Environmental representative on a variety of committees; addressed diverse constituent groups; designed and conducted workshops on growth-related issues.
