I am a private music instructor, musician and Pre-Service Teacher studying at Flinders University in South Australia to graduate with a Masters in Primary Teaching (R-7) in 2018. I have worked in Primary schools as a private drum teacher since 2013, teaching both individual lessons and directing a drum ensemble (the Uraidla Primary Snare Bears- pun truly intended). My Masters study has provided an incredible platform to delve into multidisciplinary crossovers between specialised music teaching and other subject areas- insights that I am keen to bring to the classroom. I am passionate about the role of the Arts in modern schooling and the potential for the arts to integrate into other learning, e.g. with STEM (or STEAM!). I’m also very keenly interested in the role of technology in the classroom and would love to talk to you about FabLab, laser cutters and Makey Makey, to begin with.My work as the Assistant State Director at Oaktree SA reveals the tip of an iceberg of passion and volunteering around justice issues. I believe in the power of young people to shape their worlds and in the immense value of good teaching in providing the skills to enable students to recognise what is, what can be and how to achieve this.Learning is my passion and I am committed to an evolving pedagogy that meets the challenges of the future without reinventing the wheel.
