I am an Editorial Assistant for Bristol University Press and Policy Press, working on the Science, Technology and Society academic list and the General Non-Fiction trade list.I have existing extensive experience within two Big Five publishers across various imprints: Hachette (John Murray Press, Jessica Kingsley Press, Hodder, Robinson, Wildfire) and Penguin (Ebury Self and Century, Cornerstone). I am also a first-class English Literature (BA Hons) graduate and have recently completed a Publishing Masters (distinction), both from the University of Exeter. My final dissertation was an investigative analysis of the roles that BookTok and Bookstagram communities play within contemporary publishing, particularly their impact on increasing diversity and representation within the wider industry. Continued my employment within Penguin Random House UK as an Editorial Assistant within the commercial non-fiction team at Century, Cornerstone. I directly supported the Century non-fiction team by providing excellent editorial and administrative assistance, working on high-profile celebrity autobiographies and debut memoirs. This role introduced me to the reactive and trend-led space of commercial non-fiction. Duties included minute-taking, diary management and author/agent liaison, whilst also offering opportunity to write cover copy, conduct sales research, and proofread and assess manuscripts. Due to the commercial environment in which the team were commissioning, I developed business acumen and an extensive awareness of the non-fiction trade industry. Editorial skills: Nielsen BookScan, Biblio, PRH's invoicing systems (SAP), consolidation and responsibility of editorial critical paths from conception to publication, contracts, cover design and copy.
I worked as an Editorial Assistant for two months within the Ebury Self hub of Penguin Random House UK's non-fiction division Ebury. This varied and exciting role entailed providing administrative and editorial support within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, including diary management, minute-taking, author/agent liaison, proofreading, cover checking and managing departmental systems.Editorial skills: Nielsen BookScan, Biblio, PRH's invoicing systems (SAP) and an awareness of editorial critical paths from conception to publication.
Working within the committee to maintain the SYP South West's social media channels, including providing accessible and engaging content for publishing hopefuls in the South West. Content included employment opportunities, networking events and book clubs, in an effort to highlight the diverse regional opportunities within publishing.
I launched, hosted and produced a podcast in conjunction with the marketing campaign for the Riptide 14 'Collisions' launch. Riptide: The Podcast offers a behind-the-scenes exploration of the publishing industry, with interviews from the Devon-based Riptide Journal’s editors, authors and publishing professionals. I, alongside fellow MA student Tamara, interview a range of exciting guests to bring listeners the inside scoop behind the short-story journal and publishing as a whole. Expect insightful and inspiring conversations from authors and experts alike, with plenty of writing tips, story extracts and more!
