Consulting services, real estate brokering, investing with my partner Jane Compton, Attorney.In the eighties, New York City especially Manhattan saw numerous amounts of conversions of rental buildings to cooperatives. Tenants in such buildings were offered by the sponsor/ landlord what was then known as insider prices for their apartments. The spread between these insider prices and the outsider prices which was the market value of the apartment was huge. My partner and I was able to offer the insiders money for their rights to buy the apartment at the insider price which would enable us to step into their shoes and again buy the apartment at a heavily discounted price. The big brokerage houses in the city were clueless. When they finally caught onto this easy business model in the late 1990’s it was too late as the spread between the insider and outsider price was non existent.

Western Electric at the time was the sole manufacturer of all telecommunications equipment in the United States. They also were responsible for implementing the best telephone communications system in the world. Their affiliate, Bell Labs was their research arm. As an employee, I had access to the corporate library which housed all information on telephone systems; the library affirmed as to how and why this company was able to be such an example of excellence. Learning and understanding and being able to think analytically was of paramount importance. My job consisted of many aspects, one being to interface new equipment to existing equipment in telephone offices. These telephone offices housed most of the equipment to make our telephone system work. There also was the case when new telephone offices had to be initiated to meet the demand of increased needs for more telephones for consumers and for business telephone systems. At the time, Western Electric was beginning to use electronic switching systems, thereby requiring extensive learning so one could become familiar with the new equipment and the interfacing.
