I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, and National Board Certified Counselor. I received my graduate degree in counseling from The College of William and Mary and my undergraduate degree from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (now Randolph College). I have been practicing counseling for over 15 years in acute, inpatient, outpatient, not-for-profit, school, group home, in-home, and residential facilities. My counseling theories most often practiced include solution focused, cognitive behavioral therapy, reality therapy, family systems, and client-centered. However, my techniques are drawn from many different counseling perspectives in order to meet the clients’ individual needs and strengths. I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.Specialties: My specialties include cycles of aggression and abuse, adolescents, co-occurring diagnoses, juvenile sex offender populations, family therapy, relationships, self-esteem, substance abuse and addiction, and treating anxiety, bipolar, posttraumatic stress, conduct, and borderline personality disorders. I also have worked for many years with Autistic, LGBTQ, BIPOC, and AAPI populations, and am an affirming and culturally competent practitioner. I served as an adjunct professor at ODU to educate paraprofessionals on working with populations struggling with addiction and substance abuse. Provided supervision to QMHPs practicing in in-home, TDT settings. Currently providing supervision for residents and interns working toward licensure in VA, LPC, who are in or have completed a counseling, CACREP accredited Master's program.
