I was promoted to associate editor a year after I was hired as the assistant editor.As the associate editor, I was the editorial team's "pinch hitter." I wrote (travel features, health + wellness, profiles, theater reviews, arts features, miscellaneous topics), edited (copy editing, line editing, working with freelancers on story development), blogged, collaborated with the art department on layout designs, managed the interns, and oversaw the flow of copy between the editorial and art departments. I also served as the interim style editor from December 2012 to May 2013, and the interim senior arts editor from April 2013 to October 2013.Additionally, I cultivated relationships with freelancers and local personalities to unearth story ideas; worked with the marketing department to increase engagement through social media, radio, and events; and constantly looked for ways to improve the magazine, both in print and online.

As the assistant editor, I worked in concert with my editor-in-chief, taking care of such tasks as copy editing, fact checking, blogging, managing the flow of copy between the art and editorial departments, writing shorter pieces (travel, arts, science), and contributing to larger features and packages. I became the magazine's de facto travel editor/writer in October 2011.
