I was promoted to associate editor a year after I was hired as the assistant editor.As the associate editor, I was the editorial team's "pinch hitter." I wrote (travel features, health + wellness, profiles, theater reviews, arts features, miscellaneous topics), edited (copy editing, line editing, working with freelancers on story development), blogged.

As the assistant editor, I worked in concert with my editor-in-chief, taking care of such tasks as copy editing, fact checking, blogging, managing the flow of copy between the art and editorial departments, writing shorter pieces (travel, arts, science), and contributing to larger features and packages. I became the magazine's de facto travel editor/writer.
