Ran my 1st marathon 12/5/10 and was the 5th oldest woman to finish the Palm Beaches Marathon. I run with the team when I can, but book tour has cut back on coaching availability this year.

The Cancer Project is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. Doctors, registered dietitians and health care professionals who support nutrition research and education as a way of preventing and surviving cancer. They designed an 8-class cooking class curriculum that I and 60 other instructors around the US teach. We teach at hospitals, community and cancer centers, health departments, condos, health clubs and more. It's the best and most rewarding work I've ever done. Better than any paycheck or Emmy. One of my students, a multiple myeloma survivor lost 120 pounds in 8 months, came off all heart meds and improved cancer markers. Students often lose weight without counting calories or ever being hungry and they love the easy to prepare food. My "night" job for fun.

After my mom, aunt and eventually both sisters got breast cancer, and I almost died of a colon blockage at 28, doctors said, "You better do something differently with your life or you'll end up like everyone else in your family." I was also advised by several doctors that to try to stave off our family legacy of breast cancer, to "breastfeed as long and often as you can." La Leche League was instrumental in helping me overcome the worst obstacles you can imagine. Becoming a leader and helping others was small payback for the health and bonding that pays off to this day. An incredible organization!

Included arranging all details surrounding performances at Chicago's Arie Crown and New York's Carnegie Hall. I also did PR for 3 months in Europe. At age 18. ;)
