CHOICE, Inc. is an employment-focused day program for adults with intellectual disabilities. As a designated coordinator, I provide person-centered case management services. This requires working with a participant's IDT to develop and implement individualized program plans for them. I also assist my participants in developing employment skills by teaching classes onsite and providing job coaching directly at various jobsites in the West Metro.

As a special education paraprofessional at Madison Elementary School, I spent my mornings working one-on-one with an EBD student in a Chinese immersion classroom, and I spent my afternoons assisting a teacher in an ELL classroom. I aimed to prevent the escalation of my EBD students, and I helped deescalate them if their behavior became disruptive and/or dangerous. I also provided adaptive tutoring lessons for SPED students in one-on-one and small group settings. I worked hard to promote the closure of the achievement gap by ensuring that high-risk students remained on track with their peers.

As a caregiver for Consumer Directions, Inc., I provided in-home care to a preschool-aged individual with autism. I helped my client meet his everyday needs by providing assistance with toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene routines. I worked to create a lively atmosphere where my client could feel happy and safe. On occasion, I used behavioral management techniques to deescalate my client. I observed my client's in-home ABA therapy sessions and communicated with my client's parents to stay up-to-date on his current goals. I regularly transported my client to/from appointments.

As a substitute paraprofessional at Teachers On Call, I spent my days subbing in classrooms at various schools in District 742 (St. Cloud, MN). Although my responsibilities varied greatly from day to day, I was typically placed in a classroom where one to five students required my support to succeed in their daily tasks. I also subbed in EBD classrooms, where I was in charge of managing the behavior of students who were escalated. I performed personal cares and transfers for students who needed assistance with toileting, feeding, and overall mobility. I supervised lunch and recess and ran errands around the school for teachers and other education professionals.

True Friends Can is an organization that runs five year-round overnight camps throughout Minnesota for children and adults with disabilities. As a respite counselor, I worked every weekend (Friday - Sunday) year-round at Camp Friendship and Camp Eden Wood. I was responsible for the health and welfare of up to 20 children and adults with disabilities ranging from mild to profound. I assisted individuals with physical disabiltiies with walking, transferring, toileting, and other daily needs. I encouraged participation and promoted independence amongst participants. I established rapport with each participant to ensure that they were enjoying their weekend and that their needs were being met. I delegated volunteer responsibilities and ensured that they had a valuable experience as well.
