Expert in the fields of security, cybersecurity and business management, Ellen employed her strong strategic, business and operational experience and expertise in cyber risk management to create and oversee a comprehensive, integrated global security function for Vanguard.She has balanced conflicting international demands of businesses for new ways of working in a digital world, exacting global regulators’ requirements and criminal and political threats. In addition to strong strategic security acumen, Ellen’s background includes twenty years of leadership success running organizations as diverse as insurance product development, sales management and investment thought leadership as well as P&L responsibility for Vanguard’s personal advice, annuity and defined benefits businesses. She served as the first Chair of the Chief Information Security Officer Advisory Committee of the Investment Company Institute (ICI) for four years until her recent retirement. As Chair, she fostered a cooperative and sharing environment for more than 100 CISOs of member firms and provided advice and guidance to the ICI on security implications of legislative and regulatory issues. She has extensive experience explaining cyber risk and technical topics to institutional clients and boards. Ellen has been a featured presenter at industry and Vanguard conferences and her webcasts and blogs addressing retail client interests have rated highly with Vanguard shareholders. Ellen received her B.A. from the University of Connecticut (1974), her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School (1977), and her L.L.M. in Taxation from Boston University Law School (1982).
