VNG International is the international cooperation agency of the Association of Dutch Municipalities. Alongside its projects abroad, it has embarked on a campaign to promote the contribution of Dutch municipalities to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. I advise on linking municipal tasks and mandates to the sustainable development agenda, as well as on policy, institutional and legal reforms required at (inter)national level to enable decentralised approaches to inclusive and environmentally sustainable development. I also assist in programme formulation for VNG's work on local government capacity development globally.

Vanuit Natuur en Milieu Gelderland bied ik procesondersteuning aan het Gelderse programma voor Landbouw en Grondgebruik. Het programma draagt bij aan de energietransitie en aan de landelijke en provinciale klimaatdoelen door het terugdringen van broeikasgasemissies in de landbouw, energiebesparing en verhoging van het aandeel duurzame energie in land- en tuinbouw, en CO2-vastlegging in landbouwbodems en natuurlijke vegetatie. We doen dit met een netwerk van betrokken partners en zoeken synergie met andere doelen als verhoging biodiversiteit, een duurzaam inkomen voor boeren, goed waterbeheer, een fraai landschap.

The Hague

Advising the department on its policies and support programmes for fragile and conflict-affected countries and regions, with respect to human security, rule of law, inclusive political processes, effective governance and reconstruction (employment and social services). Drafting the Ministry's Theory of Change for interventions in these areas. Liaising with external partners and knowledge institutions.

All aspects of the Embassy's management and diplomatic tasks. Responsible for Dutch financial support to Srebrenica and neighbouring municipalities, to the search for missing persons and to civil society initiatives (Matra programme). Monitoring of Bosnia-Herzegovina's (stalled) progress of EU-integration, social and economic development, public finance and developments related to constitutional reform, rule of law, transitional justice and return processes. I pushed for a much stronger emphasis on good (economic) governance and democratic stakeholder consultations in the EU's and IFI's financial support programmes and in the EU-BiH Structured Dialogue on Justice.

Embassy management and diplomatic work. Management of the bilateral development programme with of a team of 10 professionals and annual budget of 25 million Euros. Adjusting the programme from technically oriented sector support in health, water and education to a more politically informed and conflict sensitive set of interventions, focusing on human security in the deteriorating conditions in Yemen. I have lobbied for a more responsive attitude of the International Community to the unfolding political crisis, with efforts to fight corruption, respect human rights and promote inclusive development.

Reviewing and finetuning the Dutch position regarding sectorwide approaches and their implementation in partner countries, with a focus on the quality of service delivery, macro-micro linkages (national, subnational and local level), stakeholder consultation, domestic (financial) accountability and the role and effectiveness of various aid modalities.

The Dutch development cooperation programme in India at the time focused on the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Kerala. I was responsible for the Kerala programme, which comprised co-funding with ADB for a fiscal and governance reform programme, next to bilateral support for the decentralisation process, water sector and gender-related activities.
