Working on Sharesight’s share portfolio tracker. Key tasks are around site performance, extracting domains from legacy code, and growing the team. Highlights include:- Dropped DB CPU from spiking to ~99% frequently to hovering between 20%-50% (MySQL Aurora)- Took a common report query from 600 seconds down to 6 seconds by removing dependent subqueries- Helped the existing backend team know where to look for slow query information and how to improve the queries

Worked on a handful of projects using Ruby on Rails for APIs, React for front-end, and AWS for the platform. Highlights include:- Added PostgreSQL database monitoring one a large project. With the new information I was able to: - Drop peak time CPU usage by 40%, greatly reducing the risk of SLA violations - Perform several major version upgrades (PSQL RDS 9.4 to 11.8) - Halve the total size of the database- Worked with AWS CloudFormation and Rails templates to help standardise common project setup to get an OAuth API and infrastructure running in 1 week instead of 6- Used Punycode to allow accented email domains to sign up (e.g. a te reo domain)

Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and VueJS development for Storypark's Early Childhood Education software. Highlights include:- Set up the foundations for a mutli-lingual product by working with the mobile team to support te reo Māori in the apps and API- Built a 3rd party integration system where future integrations can plug-in, allowing new integrations to be added in days instead of months- Kick-started the change from 2 week cycles and long project timelines, to a better scoped 6-week cycle (Shape Up method)- Introduced VueJS patterns, Storybook, and JS coding standards now used by the whole team

Working with Ruby on Rails, MySQL, and JavaScript/React for Optimal Workshop's suite of usability tools.- Setting guidelines for remote work and being absolutely comfortable working as a remote team member- Automating deployments with CI and Webhooks to free up developer time- Adding code style guides to help onboard new developers and to speed up code reviews- Porting over the old Java codebase into a newer Rails codebase- Developing, testing, and deploying new features needed for a large SaaS product

Ran tutorial sessions for the introduction to web and information systems. Tasks included creating and assessing lab materials and tests.
