Working directly with advertising and marketing clients, I leverage my storytelling skills to edit advertising to better establish an emotional connection with clients while communicating brand differentiation. For Syron Design, I create press releases announcing award winners, and develop social media copy to drive viewers to the website from social media. In addition, I edit website copy to help establish a unique brand voice.

As the manager I must ensure that the Starbucks brand standards are not compromised and that both customers and staff feel like the store is a safe, clean, and inviting. It is also my responsibility to be a leader for my team. As the COVID pandemic, so too did anxieties and conflicts. Because of this, I had to maintain composure while diffusing complex situations on the floor. This has made me good on my feet, and able to prioritize the needs of the community over my own ego or emotions.

Being a barista is demanding. Whether opening the store at 3am or closing it at midnight, baristas might have a crew of co-workers or might be working the line solo. Due to the work shortage in the pandemic, most shifts are understaffed and chaotic.

The Observer is Notre Dame’s independent, student-run daily newspaper (printed and digital) that publishes content across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. As Social Media Editor I managed a team of 15 students across all the social media platforms. My responsibilities included: assist with the development of audience engagement strategy, help publish daily posts, manager all posts and all platforms, analyze data analytics from multiple platforms (including our website) to understand audience engagement. During my year as Social Media Editor our click-thru-rate from social platforms increased by 30%. In addition, when COVID-19 restrictions on in-person gatherings cost the paper its major source of advertising revenue, I created a comprehensive social fundraising campaign to help offset costs for the paper.

As a journalist, I wrote weekly columns about my experience as a student at Notre Dame to facilitate conversation on campus and help students feel heard. Moreover, I wrote news articles and staff reports daily about pressing events on in the community: protests on campus, University policies, conflict between the three campuses covered by the paper, student deaths, the pandemic, etc. Article topics were not assigned. Writers had to conceive and pitch stories while developing compelling angles to appeal to students as well as faculty, alumni, and the South Bend community. It took drive to both accurately cover local and global events while balancing the demands of being a full-time student.

The Concord Monitor is a Pulitzer Prize winning daily newspaper that hosts summer college interns as full-fledged reporters. As a working journalist for the Monitor, I found articles by researching local news and events, discovered untold facts or angles, pitched story ideas, facilitated extensive corroborate information, wrote informative yet compelling stories, and captured captivating photographs at events. Additionally, two of my stories were featured in a regional magazine, Around Vermont. Drawing on my social media background, I advised the team how to best leverage stories across multiple social media channels including daily and weekly e-newsletters, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to increase click-rates and audience engagement.
