I am a qualified patent attorney working in the engineering group at HGF Limited.My daily practice includes developing an IP strategy for my clients with their commercial goals in mind, the prosecution of patent applications before the UK and European patent offices, and working on FTO and litigation projects with clients. I am also involved with HGF's opposition and appeals team, which represent clients before the opposition division and appeal boards of the European patent office.I have specialist knowledge in the automotive and biotechnology sectors, and also operate more widely with medical devices and other engineering technology.

Secondment to Oribiotech, leading the IP and legal function.My role includes overseeing the IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, registered designs and internal know-how, and advising the SLT on freedom-to-operate. I am also responsible for transactional legal matters (NDAs, contracts) involving Ori’s technology and IP.

As part of this role, I worked at the British Science Festival, where we demonstrated to people of a variety of ages and varying scientific knowledge. This was a great opportunity to show the public how instrumental science is in our everyday lives.

As part of my degree, I have undertaken a Masters project in the field of crystallography. My work is based around the exploration of polymorphism in NSAIDs using standard and extreme conditions (low temperature/high pressure), and how these relate to API development/formulation and intellectual property. I am required to grow appropriate crystals using a variety of techniques, analyse by single crystal x-ray diffraction, and solve/refine the final structure. During my work, I have also gained experience using high pressure techniques (using Diamond Anvil Cells, DACs) and low temperatures (down to ~9K). The course requires me to write a report, give a presentation and also assesses my work in a viva.
