Currently, I simultaneously work as a Hydrologic Scientist with CIROH, serve as the Community Lead for Drought and Water Resources at the National Water Center, and am the Southeast Regional Drought Coordinator. In these roles I engage with national and regional stakeholders and partners to guide research on improving drought early warning, specifically for hydrologic drought and low-flow prediction, for how prediction tools can be disseminated for and applied to decision making.Previously, I was the drought coordinator for South Carolina, where I coordinate with state and federal partners to assess drought conditions for South Carolina and contribute to the United States Drought Monitor (USDM) map. In this role I also work closely with water utilities in the state as they updated their local drought management plans. After finishing my doctorate, I was an Applied Climate Lecturer in the School of Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln . I been an instructor for "Introduction to Applied Climate Science," "Climate Literacy in Natural Resources," "Climate and Society," and "Climate in Crisis."My dissertation research focused on drought risk perception, evaluating societal vulnerability to drought, and what approaches different jurisdictional levels can employ to reduce drought vulnerability. I especially like working with stakeholders to reduce drought vulnerability and improve drought management. I was afforded these opportunities through funding from the National Drought Mitigation Center for my doctoral degree.I am also part of an international research group ("Drought in the Anthropocene" in the current research focus of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences) working to understand how Human activity can propagate, exacerbate, and alleviate droughts.
