Volunteered on-site in Kathmandu for four weeks in a grant-writing/fundraising internship. I also continue to support the NGO remotely in the same capacity, while also attending weekly project meetings comprised of other remote volunteers.•Applied a formalised project management approach to projects at the ‘Concept’ phase of the project lifecycle, creating a comprehensive project management plan for the riseHER project. This project aims to reimagine education for Nepali girls through a variety of initiatives, including educational provision and interactive programmes such as a pen-pal scheme and video conferencing sessions.•Researched eligible grants for the organisation’s projects, including the discovery of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). The fund’s criteria were extremely well-suited to the characteristics of the riseHER project and applications were open at the time I was volunteering on-site in Kathmandu.•Completed the CFLI application, including a 25 page application form consisting of mostly qualitative questions regarding the project, as well as project management components such as deliverables, schedule, risk etc. Contract award decision is still pending, however if the proposal is unsuccessful then proposal information may be used for future proposals.•Built a web-page for the riseHER project on the VolNepal website and also created a fully functional newsletter subscription. Each month this requires my work to upload and send to recipients.

•Co-ordinated, quality checked and submitted bids, grant and tender responses to research calls, sometimes in collaboration with other research institutions. •Supported project and portfolio managers in fulfilling internal procedures, particularly at bid and closedown stages of projects, e.g. running customer credit checks, issuing customer satisfaction questionnaires, reporting on project finances and project reviews.•Internally audited projects to ensure that project management activities as set out in organisational governance procedures were being carried out effectively, for example in relation to risk management or project approval processes.Professionally issued quotations to commercial customers.•Facilitated contract negotiations, often between scientists, senior management and legal advisors. •Personally invoiced all Cefas Weymouth-site customers using bespoke software, based upon fixed price, as well as time and materials contractual arrangements. •Procurement assistance, for example, raising of purchase orders, obtaining spend approval, placing orders and reconciling supplier invoices with purchase orders.•Dealt with suppliers in line with government procurement policies.•Supported the monitoring of customer aged debts in conjunction with colleagues at Cefas Lowestoft-site.•Effectively communicated to the wider community when representing Cefas at external events, including the Thomas Hardye School's careers fair.•Fire marshalled for any site evacuations. This included performing the role call and liaising with other fire marshals to ensure all approx. 150 staff onsite were accounted for.
