Project Manager
CurrentI am enjoying the incredible learning opportunities I've been afforded in my role as a consultant Project Manager for the State of Florida, Department of Health's Newborn Screening program. My role involves multiple responsibilities that include working as a liaison between our team of laboratory technicians, nurses, and the Technology teams that support both them and the various hardware and software products they use. I also enjoy influencing the design and participating in the rollout of the products developed to simplify the input of orders from the providers and the receipt of the published electronic results from the blood screening. The intent of the Florida Newborn Screening (NBS) Program is to screen, identify, and manage follow-up activity for newborns at risk for selected disorders that, without detection and treatment, can lead to permanent developmental and physical damage, including death. Screening is currently performed for 53 genetic disorders and more are added as prescribed by the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP). The broad umbrella of the newborn screening program includes managing the processes from demographic data entry, training for blood sample collection and reporting, laboratory testing, laboratory result reporting, follow-up activities, and integration into other systems such as Vital Statistics and FL SHOTS.
