Aiming to survey existing information and generate new knowledge regarding the challenges and disadvantages faced by young creators from marginalised backgrounds, I devised research methodologies and conducted extensive desk research surveying governmental, NGO and academic reports covering a European context.Intersectional and superdiversity frameworks were employed in order to acknowledge the complex interaction of socio-economic status, gender, ethnicity, sexual-orientation, disability, and multiple other factors which can disadvantage a young creator in the cultural and creative industries. Interviews with specialists with fields of study and community experience were conducted, complimented by a research strand that spoke with young creators with a broad range of experiences. Innovative philanthropic ventures were examined, to better understand contemporary responses to support.- Planned and delivered a research programme into challenges facing young creators in a European context.- Conducted desk research consulting government, NGO and academic reports in various aspects.- Factored an understanding of how COVID-19 and it’s long-term economic and social effects would amplify existing disadvantages.- Interviewed specialists with various fields of study and experience.- Examined opportunities and forecast new trends in philanthropic activity. Through my two years in the department, I helped to develop more professionalised procedures and expanded the types of support provided as well as the number of projects we had capacity for. This duties extended to the annual degree show, during which time I was responsible for organising systems to collect student audio-visual equipment requests and then fairly allocate equipment supplies based on these. Despite COVID-19 affecting both the 2020 and 2021 degree shows, I was able to put in a milestone based approach that was clearly communicated with students and used submission form systems to better understand their needs. Stronger allocation systems were put in place based upon up to date accounting of audio-visual equipment stock and procedures for the collection and return of equipment used to avoid the spread of COVID-19.In addition to these duties, I oversaw the Exhibition Hub’s first partnered programme with the London Community Video Archive, that saw the recent graduate Djofray Makumbu produce Hello Mr Officer, an animated documentary film exploring the racial discrimination behind police stop-and-search activities. The film was first screened at South London Gallery.- Curate and manage Exhibition Hub programme of partnerships and sponsored projects.- Coordinate with student / graduate requests for AV loans to external exhibitions.- Organise AV allocation for Goldsmiths BA and MFA Degree Shows.- Maintain social media presence and manage student / graduate requests for representation.- Update stock records.- Research new AV and make purchase recommendations.
