I am joining the field of recreation therapy to follow my passion of providing person centered care to individuals in our community. Upon studying Aging and Gerontology and working in long-term care, I was inspired by the impact that meaningful recreation can make and became determined to help facilitate these experiences for individuals who face barriers to them. I believe that providing therapeutic recreation can improve overall quality of life and by helping individuals overcome obstacles to participation, I can help clients reach their goals. I provide a patient and determined mindset to the work place, where I help build a customized approach to each clients specific needs and goals.I currently volunteer with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program, providing comfort and companionship to those living in long-term care and participating in adult day programs. The therapy dog visits provide the opportunity to interact with individuals directly and facilitate an engaging interaction with my dog. I currently work on-call for a long-term care staffing agency as a Support Service Aide. I assist residents with Activities of Daily Living, document the provided care, and engage with residents during activities and meals.
