About Elliott Smith

I grew up in the wild and wonderful hills of West Virginia and spent most of my childhood either playing sports or trying to see wildlife! I attended Wesleyan in 2007 to play soccer and get a degree in Marketing. Following that, I attended West Virginia University and completed my MBA in 2012. I wanted to learn as much as possible about startups and technology after college, so I moved to Silicon Valley and lived in San Francisco in 2013. After working in FinTech for about a year, I started my SaaS career by moving to New Relic in 2014. There were about 150 employees when I joined, which grew to over 1,200 in 4 years and became a public company in the process. We worked with companies of all shapes and sizes, helping them use data and observability to make smarter business decisions. New Relic was a pioneer in this space and my time there completely changed how I think about every app, website, and digital interaction ever since.My next role was at Envoy, where we helped C level executives with workplace strategy and employee management during an incredibly unique time for that space - the COVID pandemic. Some of my clients included top government organizations, professional sports teams, and many well known tech and SaaS startups. Working with leadership from these organizations during such a unique time was an invaluable experience that taught me so much about how organizations manage their employees.Our family moved back to WV a few years ago and I started my own tech focused business consulting firm called TFIN Labs. My goal for TFIN (The Future Is Now) is to help small businesses achieve their goals and make smarter decisions by leveraging innovative technologies, data and creative business strategies.I recently started a position at WVU as the Program Coordinator for Vantage Ventures. An initiative of the John Chambers School of Business and Economics, the main goal of VV is to help accelerate the growth of scalable startups in the Mountain State.
