R&D Engineer
Role involved the development of new PVD and CVD coatings deposited by a range of methods including electron beam and magnetron sputtering. I was involved at a practical and programme management level in both short and long-term surface modification research projects. I worked on a number of government funded research projects with universities and companies from both the UK and Europe. This role required me to work effectively as part of a small team of surface engineers and material scientists, performing practical research on a daily basis. Some of my other duties included the training of staff to pass over new developmental coating from research and development to full time production. Other roles included liaising with customers to discuss further product development, failure analysis and backwards engineering of new thin film products. I was also required to work independently writing reports and planning new research programmes.
