Managed an internal team of 10, liaison with the external project partner, responsible for ensuring all milestones were completed with all stakeholders kept up to date. Key achievements were developing a manufacturing process that gave a yield improvement from less than 30% to greater than 90% and ensuring that the bill of materials achieved the stretched target. All essential suppliers identified with risk mitigation plan to ensure continuity of supply.

Senior engineer leading research into developing a flexible platform for lighting devices with aim to transfer key learning to parent company for implementation on the manufacturing line. Key achievement was developing a platform that had equivalent performance to the baseline rigid platform. Developed device architecture to optimise shelf-life without compromising performance.

Worked within the device development team; responsible for developing novel device architectures to optimise PLED performance and efficiency. Key achievement within this role was being given the responsibility for managing the project for the £1.5M investment in a new state of the art deposition tool, this process involved writing the full tool specification, visiting vendors and making the final decision on the chosen supplier. Once the tool was delivered, I took sole responsibility for commissioning, ensuring it met our agreed specification and delivered the key results for improving device performance.

Main responsibilities were managing back end of line team of engineers and technical assistants. Main aspects of this role were to develop and oversee new cathode and anode deposition processes and conditions to improve PLED device performance. Other parts of my role involved me working on multiple company projects which gave me the opportunity to improve my time management skills to ensure that all aspects of the company objectives were met.

Role involved the development of new PVD and CVD coatings deposited by a range of methods including electron beam and magnetron sputtering. I was involved at a practical and programme management level in both short and long-term surface modification research projects. I worked on a number of government funded research projects with universities and companies from both the UK and Europe. This role required me to work effectively as part of a small team of surface engineers and material scientists, performing practical research on a daily basis. Some of my other duties included the training of staff to pass over new developmental coating from research and development to full time production. Other roles included liaising with customers to discuss further product development, failure analysis and backwards engineering of new thin film products. I was also required to work independently writing reports and planning new research programmes.

Research involved development of a computer model to describe and predict the creep behaviour of power plant steel. Comparative studies of experimental data and the results of computer simulation verified the model. The results were presented in two written reports to the customer.
