Being Agile isn’t about IT: it’s having permission to use common sense. Standing up at meetings and maintaining a backlog doesn’t mean you’re Agile, despite what some people might lead you to believe. Using the latest cool application isn’t a sign of Agile mastery.Agility comes from the way you think, the way you look at problems and their potential solutions. You don’t achieve agility by following a set of instructions or by blindly implementing what you read in a guide, but by allowing yourself to act with intelligence and intuition and all those other traits that organisations gradually educate us away from. That’s quite a change for many workplaces but we live in times of change, so why not? This is why my family knows me as ‘The Disruptor’ (don’t we all need superhero names?).Of course, the Agile world is full of ‘experts’ who assure us that the only path is theirs; we must tread precisely in their footprints and only they hold the key. Naturally enough, there’s a good deal of scepticism and resistance in many organisations, and that’s why I’m a ninja. Agility by stealth is how I can bring even the most resistant of colleagues out from under their rainclouds of cynicism into the sunshine of a more Agile mindset. By the way, being more Agile is the aim and we can do that every day.I’ve worked in training for about a dozen years and have had huge success, working with clients large and small, from global corporations to talented individuals, developing and delivering training for them in Agile working and Business Analysis.
