UNSW Canberra needed to promote the university's presence in the ACT region, new non-Defence civilian undergraduate programs, research excellence on campus, and the ongoing relationship with Defence.I was tasked with improving the use of existing social media and online channels, establishing a new channel to increase engagement, and creating compelling content.Within a fortnight of starting I had created the UNSW Canberra Instagram channel and initiated a campaign to increase awareness of the university's presence in Canberra. Coinciding with the ADFA Open Day, we ran a campaign using the Instagram channel and a hashtag-driven printing service. Engagement and reach increased massivel. In the first two weeks of the Instagram channel launching, Facebook reach increased by 278,967% (admittedly off a low base, but still...). On Open Day use of the #UNSWCanberra hashtag on Instagram was within 100 of the #ADFA hashtag, and was the third most used hashtag in the ACT, beating UC's and coming within 200 uses of ANU's. I have continued to achieve good results in engagement and reach, using social media to promote UNSW Canberra events, media announcements, campus life, and research excellence.
Producer
As Producer of Canberra's biggest fashion festival I was responsible for the logistics and management of the six shows over three days, including managing supporting events, rehearsals and promotions, liaising with partners and clients, and the management of a team of over 200 people on the nights. In 2016, the event increased from four to six shows, with two shows each night. Working with the Creative Director, Director of Backstage and others, we went through a process of discovery and prototyping to ensure the shows would run smoothly. We interviewed users (Directors of Hair and Makeup and their tesms, models, designers), and created prototypes of how the logisitics would work. We developed systems to ensure that all everyone would have all the information they needed to know how to do their role and where they needed to be. Despite the added pressure of a second show, the shows ran smoother than ever. We received positive feedback from people in each creative and logistical area of the shows, as well as critical acclaim from the audience and commentators.
Online Communications Officer
As Online Communications Officer for the ASADA I was responsible for all online communications strategy and production, as well as supporting the comms team with design, copy writing, editing and technical work. The last big project I worked on was the redevelopment of the ASADA website. As a result of my proactive inquiries, ASADA was one of the first agencies outside the Department of Finance to use the govCMS platform and one of the first websites developed using the Digital Tranformation Agency (then the Digital Transformation Office) Digital Service Standard. The existing ASADA website was not meeting accessibility standards, was not run using a content management system (CMS), and was starting to fail user's needs. In addition, a 2015 update to the World Anti-Doping Code meant that content was in need of review. Working with the Department of Finance, developers Previous/Next and consultants from Deloitte, we started a discovery process to determine our user's needs. Following the DTO's draft Digital Service standard, we interviewed users and tested draft information architecture with them. We iterated our designs and our content strategies, pushing the website live in early 2015. The website has continued to be updated and improved, with the incorporation of the website of the Australian Sports Drug Medical Advisory Committee into the main site. Feedback from users and stakeholders has been positive, and the govCMS platform has become very beneficial to the internal processes of ASADA, allowing non-technical staff to update and maintain the site while adhering to Government standards.
