Managed health and safety initiatives for 22 locations throughout the US. Introduced proactive safety workshops. Led Environmental, Health, and Safety programs globally for six business units: Rigid Plastics, Flexible Europe Americas, Tobacco Packaging, Flexible Asia Pacific, Australasia, and Packaging Distribution. Initiated / managed programs impacting 300 plants / 34,000 employees in 43 countries.Enabled company to identify developing trends and proactively resolve issues. Each of the company’s six divisions utilized its own database to track and classify incidents. Identified the best features of each and introduced a standardized database based on common elements and incident classifications. Created system for improved trend analysis and use of data, a process that had been impossible under the old system of isolated divisional data silos.

Headed EHS programs for 15 plants in the pharmaceutical packaging group. Played critical role in transitioning plants from Alcan to new owner Amcor.

Promoted to build comprehensive health and safety programs. Led safety initiatives in 28 plants with 5000 employees in seven countries producing packaging for the food and healthcare industries. Lowered incident rate from 6.0 down to 0.6 in an industry where 3.0 is typical. Reduced costs and increased revenues by $1M annually. Controlled $2.2M budget. Supervised five reports.Reduced waste and cost. Only 15% of Alcan’s solid waste was recycled and hazardous waste was 35% of ink and solvent usage. Negotiated new contracts with solid and hazardous waste vendors. Lowered hazardous waste to 4% of material usage by reducing use and recycling solvent for cleanup and as a raw material. Cut costs $5M. Enabled plants to recycle 90%+ of solid waste, bringing in $8M additional revenue and reducing landfill costs $4M+.Established audit system that drove big performance improvements. Developed environmental audit system. Collaborated with plant management in setting improvement goals. Enabled plants to improve audit scores from 50s to low 90s, well above industry averages where scores above 80 are considered excellent.Played key role in securing ISO and OHSAS certification. Developed standard tools and initiated training and auditing processes. Negotiated contracts with Intertek, QMI and other certification companies globally. Enabled all 28 Alcan plants to be ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified.Translated EHS management into significant performance and cost improvement tool. Formed and led team that benchmarked industry-best EHS systems. Initiated behavior-based safety process, based on benchmarking, DuPont STOP, and Behavioral Science Technologies (BST). Cut lost time injury rate by 95% and total incident rate by 90%. Reduced workers comp costs $3M+ yearly.
